Senior Backend Engineer – Data & Experimentation Systems position combines backend engineering with data work to power fast, safe product experiments. You’ll build lightweight services, feature flags, and APIs that let teams test ideas across platforms, while also writing SQL, building views in Snowflake, and creating Looker dashboards to measure results. It’s a hybrid position where your work directly drives learning, reduces risk, and shapes the company’s product direction.

Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in developing and maintaining backend services, APIs, and integrations for both web and mobile apps.
- Hands-on experience with PHP (essential for web integrations).
- Strong SQL skills (queries, views, stored procedures) with experience working with Snowflake and Looker.
- Ability to work in a “lean” development style: delivering stable endpoints rapidly while keeping risk low.
- Experience working with experimentation frameworks, feature flagging, or A/B testing platforms.
- Skill in delivering quick solutions while maintaining safeguards for production stability.
- Team-oriented and adaptable, moving easily between backend development and data/reporting tasks.
- Excels in fast-paced, uncertain environments and is comfortable creating solutions that may not be permanent.
- Inquisitive, always looking for ways to make the product better for users.
- Driven by outcomes, prioritizing learning and insights over perfecting features.
- Proactive and accountable, taking initiative to move ideas beyond the initial requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Create simple, reliable backend services and endpoints to support experiments on iOS, Android, and Web (with PHP important for web).
- Add feature flags, toggles, and custom APIs so we can test ideas safely without affecting production.
- Work with engineering, product, and design teams to ship experiment-ready features quickly, writing code that’s fast to build but stable for users.t strategy, boost engagement, and achieve clear business goals.
- Write SQL queries and create views in Snowflake to help with experiment reporting and answer data questions.
- Turn experiment results into clear dashboards and visuals in Looker.
- Support ad-hoc reporting to make sure product decisions are based on accurate, reliable data.
- Deliver fast, reliable backend updates that enable product experiments and support the team.
- Provide data support so results can be measured and turned into action.
- Play a key role in helping the company learn quickly, reduce risk, and shape its future direction.
